VINTAGE in LOS ANGELES

VINTAGE in LOS ANGELES

SUSTAINABILITY FTW

My favorite shopping in the entire world is luxury consignment and vintage.  And no one does vintage better than Los Angeles.  Not only is vintage shopping sustainable, just like the Marrin Costello Jewelry brand, but I always get so inspired by the quality of what fashion used to be — the roots from which many of our current styles stem.

Below are three stores I paid a visit to on my most recent trip to LA to pick up inspiration pieces for upcoming photoshoots, lookbooks, and campaigns for the brand.

1) RECESS LA

My forever go-to and favorite vintage spot is Recess.  Owner Marie Monsod is a dear friend, and a former neighbor when I lived in SoCal not too long ago.  I would walk by Marie's beautiful store every day on my way to workout — and both swoon at the window displays, and pop in when their hours of operation aligned with my exercise routine :)

This trip, I purchased a stunning pair of red trousers (yes, I am slowly but surely working color into my wardrobe) — as well as a pair of small block heeled strappy sandals — perfect for day-to-night transitions in our new stomping grounds of Tampa, Florida.

I love literally everything Marie does — and, bonus, they recently opened a home section, expanding their beautiful space to twice its size.  Trust that if I lived closer to Recess, everything in both my closet *and* my home would be from Recess.  It's a vintage lover's dream.

Check out my podcast with Marie on Season 1 of Marrin Costello Radio — HERE — (pre-home-department-opening) where we chat all things vintage, business, and building a legendary luxury consignment store with a cult following from scratch.

2) GIFT OF GARB

I was introduced to this gem of a vintage / consignment store by my dear friend Marnie.  Gift of Garb owner, Abby, was kind enough to keep the store open for me a couple minutes after closing to make sure I looked through the racks thoroughly :)  Her stock impeccable — and some of the most interesting vintage finds I have seen in a long time.

I scored both a striped top and an *insane* Ralph Lauren fringed jacket — perfect for both festival season, and a family reunion I have coming up in Nashville.  Everything is displayed beautifully — each piece having its own moment.  What's more, she sells all of her pieces on Ebay — so you don't need to be in Los Angeles to shop her shop.

3) ReDRESS

My last vintage stop in LA was at ReDress.  While my first two vintage spots were more high end (with fair but higher price points to match the upscale stock) — this spot is GREAT for discounted finds.  While I found the stock to be more consignment pieces with a variety of brands (from current to ready to wear to reasonable to reasonable-er) — this store absolutely has something for everyone.

I scored a *ton* of amazingly priced pieces — with brands including Norma Kamali and Alice + Olivia.  With racks on racks on racks of 'new' pieces, discounted pieces, and the like — get ready to dig.

 xx, Marrin
